Sent: Friday, May 02, 2003 2:15 PM Hello all Snakes, I just got a phone call from Ltc. CQ Brown, commander of the 78th Fighter Squadron. He was calling to let me know about the decommissioning of the 78th. Rumors of the closing of the 78th were circulating during our last reunion this past September, but were dispelled by word that the 55th at Shaw would be shut down. That was the plan until about 2 weeks ago, when the 78th was told that they would close at the end of May. The decommissioning ceremony will be at Shaw AFB on 23 May. I realize that this is very short notice, but we are all invited to attend. Unfortunately, I will not be able to be there, but I hope that some of us might be able to represent part of the history of the 78th at the ceremony. Please pass this information on to others that might not get this notice. If anyone would like more information, contact Ltc. CQ Brown at Shaw AFB as soon as possible.
