Message: I joined the 116th at Spokane, Wash. as an F-86 pilot in 1951 and made the deployment to Shepherds Grove with them. I was part of the unit when the 116th became the 78th and until I rotated back to the US in August of 1955. Since the unit was made up mostly of WWII pilots with plenty of experience I felt it was an honor to be part of it and made many lasting friends.

Message: I came to Woody in 1970 after my second tour in SouthEast Asia; a happy bachelor who had just sold his 427 Corvette back in the States. Went home in 1974 with a wife and son and a Ford Pinto station wagon. Time flies; that son is now a USMC aviator. I flew F-4s with the 78th during that time. I still follow the Ipswich football club via their web site - they almost made it back to the Premier division this year. I will pass the news about this site to the dozen or so old Bushmasters that I have located. I was back in the area in 2001 and drove by the bases. It was sad to see that the old hell-raising Woody O'Club bar was just a weathered derelict. We had a nice lunch and a pint at the Bull in Woodbridge. I hope that some of the early 70s F-4 guys show up on this site.

Message: What a great website! I was assigned to the 81 AMS Instrument Shop from February 1970 until February 1975. Married Delly from Wellingborough in 1971 (in the Bentwaters Chapel), and we lived in Halesworth, about 20 miles north of Bentwaters. All three of our children born in the UK...the first two at RAF Lakenheath, and the third in the front seat of our old '74 Buick station wagon, somewhere along the A45 on the way to the hospital! Yes we have some great memories of those times. We returned to RAF Bentwaters/Woodbridge in 1977 when I was assigned as an instructor at FTD 920, however my best memories are from the first time. I stayed in the service for 24 years, and now work for the City of Los Angeles. I would like to hear from any of my old buddies at these assignments.

Message: This is a great site. I have met a lot of my friends that I was stationed with at Shepherds Grove and at Bentwaters/Woodbridge. If they would let me now, I would still ride my Triumph Motorcycle out to fix any of those Voodoos. Even though I have a couple of Harleys now they might let me ride one of them (hehehehe).
Met a lot of the guys and their wives in Columbus SC for the reunion a couple of years ago but plan on making the next one when it comes around. I was at the grove in 58 and then went to Bentwaters in 59 and left from Woodbridge in 9/60. Would like to hear from all the guys that helped me empty the Birds of 100% O2 right before I left Woodbridge???

Message: I'm his son. We lived in base housing (1066A - seems they've been renumbered since) RAF Woodbridge in 59-61 while he was stationed there. Started school in 1959 at the elementary school on base. I visited the base 8 years or so ago and drove around parts of it like I left only the year before. Some things seem they never change. Have to admit, the pine trees they planted when they took down the old quanset huts between the NCO housing and the main road were a bit taller after 30 years. I still have one of Dad's Bushmaster patches... and memories of a lot of good times growing up on the base; going to the football games, base picnics, riding our bikes all over.
Terrific site. Was great finding a picture of Dad in the yearbook that I'd never seen before, and seeing some of his friends that I remember coming to our house. - Jim Harrison Jr.
