Message: Fellow Bushmasters, I was fortunate to be a "Snake" from
1995-1997 and then again from 1999-2000. Out of all the air
force squadrons I have worked in, the 78th had to be one
of the BEST. Great people and a great "can do" attitude
which I think was a product of all the men and women that
went before us. It is a pleasure to be associated with such
great people and a outstanding squadron which has given me
so many great memories.

Message: Assigned to RAF Woodbridge from Feb 71 to Dec 74.
Worked in the AGE Shop and flight line in support of the
Bushmasters. I really enjoyed my 4 years assigned to the
81st TFW. My supervisors were TSgt Chuck Pulleo, Tst Guy
Willis Bates, and Msgt Jimmy Luker. Our monthly beer busts
and cookouts, Friday evenings at the Woodbridge All Ranks
Club, and of course the fall Panthom football games on Woodstock
are great memories.
I lived on the economy at Gosbeck, Debenham, and Nacton.
The best hang-outs at the time were the Saxmundham Queens
Head and the Running Buck downtown Ipswich. Cripple Creek
and Woodstock was my first Air Force assignment and what
a way to start a career. Following the 81st, I was assigned
to Luke AFB, AZ, 435th TAW Rhein-Main AB, Germany, and 27th
TFW, Cannon AFB, NM. After Bootstrap and OTS at Lackland
in 84, I had the pleasure of being assigned to Holloman AFB,
NM, AFMTC Lackland, AFB TX and 388th TFW, Hill AFB, UT. My
last assignment was as Deputy Flight Commander, 388th OSS.
I retired in 93 and went to work for the Southern Pacific
Railroad in San Antonio as a brake man, conductor, and eventually
as a locomotive engineer. After the SP was bought out by
the Union Pacific RR, railroading just wasn't fun anymore.
The UP's draconian management made employment impossible,
so after 8 years of railroading, I just walked away.
Now, I am an Adjunct Professor teaching at Ivy Tech State
College while my wife attends law school. But, even at this
late date, my mind sometimes goes back to the good ole days
at Woodstock. We sure worked hard but boy we sure played
hard too. Any one wishing to contact me--- feel free to do
so. Larry Hammer

Message: Station at RAF Station Sheperds Grove from 1956
to 1957 after spending some time at RAF Station Sculthorp
while they work on the runway at the Grove, I spent most
of my time outside working on the old 84F, 775 the tail number.
Retrained on the F-101F VooDoo, going to the states in 1957
to pick them up to bring back to England, 2 months at Bergstrom,
1 month at George and then back to Woodbridge and Bentwaters
where I spent the remainder of my time in England, leaving
in Nov. of 1959. The Grove was small but great. As I was
married and lived off base in the small city of Hopton, I
spent time only working on the base, and to say the least,
a lot of time in the NCO Club, one of the best. I will always
have very fond memories of the Grove, Woodbridge, Bentwaters,
the 78th and all the great guys that I served with.
