Message: Great Site, I had the pleasure of taking over the A/C N4471J & N3658K plus the one that was damaged, when the 20th TFG moved to Upper Heyford. We had too many members so I got a grant from USAFE and bought a new Cherokee 180 and register as N8557. The Base got a new wing commander who hated small A/C and eventually closed it as being unsafe, while I was on emergency leave. What he didn't know was the club had won a 2000 hr safe flying award which we received three weeks after it was closed. If looks could kill I wouldn't be here today, when I showed him the award. I bet he still has egg on his face today. I won't say what I think about him...

Who can forget the TDY's to Aviano, and when we were invaded by the Canadians with their tiger stripe F-104, and feeding Barney.
We would watch "our" birds returning, and when they came below the treeline of Rendlesham, they dropped like a rock, and we would wince because we knew a tire change was coming (not much fun).
We were honored with the first female crew chief in the Air Force. The older guys had a lot of trouble with that. "What do I do if she walks into the latrine?" My response- just say hi. Still some of the best years of my life.

His name was John Hecks, pictured on page 115 of the 1959 yearbook. I am sad to say my father passed away in 2000. I have been working on a photo album in memory of my father for my brothers. Dad met and married my mother, Joyce Miller there. She even worked on the base. Dad returned to England for one visit,
in 1991. I have made several trips there and love it. The last time being in 2004, my cousin took me to Shepherds Grove. It was very thrilling for me to see where Dad was once stationed
