The Guards' Crimea Memorial, Waterloo Place, London SW1.
Commemorates the 2,162 officers, NCOs and privates of all three (at that time) foot guards who fell in the Crimean War. The main status is 'guarded' by two smaller statues; on the far right is Florence Nightingale (the lady with the lamp) who famously nursed the wounded and dying in the Crimean war; centre (left of Florence) is Lord Sidney Herbert, associate and strong supporter of Florence Nightingale. |
