Whitehall. These marching guards are not wearing their more famous bearskins.
In the background, you can JUST make out the shape of the clock tower of the Palace of Westminster - the Houses of Parliament, which is often mis-named Big Ben. Big Ben is the name of the large bell that strikes the hours.
The layout of Whitehall as it is today dates from 1899 but there was a narrower road here, called The Street from the 1500s.
The Cenotaph, designed by Edwin Landseer Lutyens (1869-1944), was erected in 1919-20.
There are statues of The Duke of Cambridge, Earl Haig, the 8th Duke of Devonshire and Field Marshal Montgomery. The branch of Barclays bank was originally Cocks, Biddulph & Co, founded by Francis Biddulph in 1757.
